We are responding to what matters to our customers, by reducing reliance on fossil fuels, minimising waste, and reducing our impact on the environment; whilst working closely with local authority partners to achieve joint climate goals.
We know our buildings use a lot of energy so we’ve invested over £7m into green technology over the last 3 years, helping to reduce our Carbon emissions by 23% compared to 2019.
Invested £7m into energy saving technologies, such as low energy lighting, variable speed drives, and pool covers in the last 3 years.
Reduced our electricity and gas consumption by over 16%.
Installed 70 Solar arrays and 10 air source heat pumps helping to power our centres from renewable sources.
Installed recycling stations in every leisure centre and library; we are now sending over 1,000 tonnes of recyclables per year for re-use.
Committed to ensure that no waste from our centres and libraries ever goes to landfill.
Ensured that all catering food waste is sent for composting and electricity generation.
Delivered environment awareness training to over 1,000 of our staff.
Achieved ISO14001 environmental management certification.
Become REGO Certified with green electricity purchasing.
Introduced the UKs first biodegradable Library cards.
