With Jesus Green Lido going into its second year of opening through the cold months in the winter, the team at Jesus Green Lido (Finn, Kane and Gabriele) decided to come up with an idea for a new challenge. This involved getting people swimming and pushing their limits through the winter months in the cold temperatures that Jesus Green Lido has to offer, all to boost their levels of serotonin after their swim.

The challenge was a distance challenge, and anyone who wanted to could take part.

The price was £5 entry fee for our members, and a £10 entry fee for non members, the idea of the challenge was all about how many lengths you could swim.

The challenge was to see what distance people could cover over the months between November 2022 and February 2023, the 3 categories were

  • 10 Kilometres
  • 20 Kilometres
  • 40 Kilometres

People decided upon their own distance, and the reward for completing their challenge they received a special edition Jesus Green Lido hat.

Upon signing up, each participant got themselves a blue tracking card, that they kept up on a board at the lido, and with every length, they could cross off another box.

During this challenge, the water temperature ranged between 2°C-8°C, and we also had days where the pool in fact froze over, so people could not swim.

We have had a total of 110 sign up so far.

Jesus Green Lido would like to offer a congratulations to all of the participants that have completed the challenge so far, and wishes good luck to the rest of the people that are taking part.

If you still wanted to sign up to this challenge, it is not to late, please speak to one of our team members at the centre who would be happy to advise on which challenge would be best for you.
