The description of the sport, "Pickleball", as the fast growing participation sport certainly did live up to it's reputation.

To celebrate 2024 being a Leap Year, and a New partnership between Pickleball UK and Better (GLL), our Centres around the country were offering free taster sessions as part of Leap celebration on 29th February.

And it certainly didn't disappoint those who came along to have a go at this exciting and fun sport.

It didn't matter how experiences individuals were in Pickleball, the tasters session allowed a welcoming environment for all abilities.

One participant said, "What a brilliant and fun sport, I haven't had such a giggle before, trying not to enter the 'kitchen'."

You might be asking what do they mean by the 'kitchen', well this is the 'No Volley Zone', on court where you can not volley a shot.

It is not only a fun activity, no matter what level of play you are looking for, but it also has some great physical and mental wellbeing benefits.

-It can build your fitness and endurance

- It improves your heart health

- It improves your mental health

- Over time it will improve your flexibility and balance

- The more you play you will improve your muscle Strength.

We held our sessions at Bodmin Tennis Centre; Liskeard Leisure Centre and St Austell Leisure Centre, 2 sessions each gave 53 individuals a chance to try Pickleball and find out why the nation is loving it.

Our aim is to look at establishing a range of Pickleball sessions that will include; Social Pickleball; Instructed sessions, and the ability to hire court and equipment.
