GSF APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN!
Applications for the GLL Sport Foundation, the UK’s largest independent athlete support programme, are now open until Tuesday 20th February 2024.
The GLL Sport Foundation was born and launched in 2008 with the support of Sally Gunnell OBE who became the Foundation’s Patron. As a leading Charitable Social Enterprise, GLL is proud to be able to make this positive impact on our communities through the Foundation. Now celebrating its 15th Anniversary the GLL Sport Foundation continues to help aspiring athletes to reach their goals and realise their sporting potential. The Foundation has been built on the collaboration of all of its partners, stakeholders, sponsors and athletes to which we are very grateful.
In 2023, 36 talented young athletes from Camden benefitted from a total fund of £20,800.
CARERS UK BESPOKE MEMBERSHIP
To encourage Carers to be active, Better is offering a limited, bespoke membership offer for members of Carers UK and any resident in the UK who is in receipt of Carer’s Allowance. We are also providing Warm Spaces’ sessions within our leisure centres and libraries this winter.
The unique membership is called ‘Better Health UK Carers’ and provides anytime access to a Better leisure facility at the discounted rate of £30 per month. This offer is exclusively for members of Carers UK and/or carers in receipt of Carer’s Allowance. Carers will be contacted by Carers’ UK with details of how to access the offer. SOMERS TOWN JOB FAIR
In December, the community team attended Somers Town Job Hub’s ‘Day in The Life’ job fair which specifically focused on the diverse needs of economically inactive Camden residents. The desired outcome was to have residents come along and speak to representatives/staff members from different organisations to understand what it would be like to work for them. The event aimed to break down barriers and inspire residents to rethink what they are capable of and what they can achieve.
This event was more informal than a usual job fair and helped residents fully understand that they too could be an employee in our company.
WARM SPACES AT KENTISH TOWN
Kentish Town Sports Centre gets ready to provide a warm space to everyone who needs it this winter. When the clocks go back, thousands of Warm Welcome Spaces like ours are getting ready to support their local community, offering everyone a friendly space to keep warm, connect, and make new friends. The dark evenings and cold winter months can be challenging for everyone. The winter is especially tough on people who feel lonely and isolated, and for anyone who can’t afford to keep heat their homes or get enough to eat. We here to help, offering residents a warm, welcoming, free and safe space in their community. Kentish Town Sports Centre will offer a warm space on Wednesdays 11am to 1pm where visitors will receive a warm welcome, comfortable seating, free WiFi plus the chance to charge their phone and portable devices as well as free tea, coffee and biscuits!
TALACRE CHRISTMAS DONATION TREE
This year Talacre Community Sports Centre partnered with Talacre Action Group and Pines and Needles to build a donation Christmas tree to support vulnerable families in the local community. To donate, visitors of the centre just had to choose a tag off the age for the age they wish to donate to, buy a suitable a gift and then attach the tag to the gift and return to the centre before Sunday 17th December. The generosity of our customers was truly amazing.
KENTISH TOWN CHRISTMAS PARTY
Customers are at the heart of what we do, they make our day-to-day. To celebrate support from our customers, our Customer Service Supervisor Shaz organised a Christmas party which was an absolute success. Customers brought food for everyone to share to get into the festive spirit. Staff and customers were able to socialise and get to know each other over trying some new food! This was a great way to wrap up the successes of 2023.
