Being the last municipal lido to be built in London, Charlton Lido first opened in May 1939. It closed four months after opening due to the outbreak of World War II, eventually reopening in 1946 and remained open until reclining revenue and increasing costs meant the lido was forced to close to the public in 1989, though it continued to be used sporadically by local clubs. It eventually became derelict in the 2000s, but was refurbished ahead of the 2012 London Olympics, with the club reopening fully by Greenwich Leisure Limited in 2013.

Following its reopening Charlton Lido and Lifestyle Club prides itself as South London’s premier fitness destination.  The Lifestyle Club boasts the latest state-of-the-art gym Technogym Artis equipment, along with a dedicated Calm Studio space for Yoga and Pilates along with Fitness and TRX classes in our deluxe studio.  Also available is an open air Group Cycle Studio which is one of a kind!  The studio overlooks the club’s spectacular Olympic sized, heated outdoor pool.

On 2nd September 2023 Charlton Lido & Lifestyle Club celebrated its 10th anniversary following the 2013 reopening by inviting members and locals to a fun filled celebration at the lido.

The event saw hundreds of people gather to celebrate and enjoy all that Charlton Lido & Lifestyle has to offer and to enjoy a free programme of Lilo racing, water polo, swim doctor masterclass and a spin. Both new visitors and regulars of 10 years joined in sharing their lido stories which included lifelong friendships being made at the Lido along with life milestones being reached and hurdles overcome.

Despite starting the day with overcast, cool weather the event was well attended, and when the sun made an appearance from 11am the buzz in and around the pool spread to staff and visitors alike. The centre staff was joined by Lido Ladies Jessica Walker who added a great fun element to the day by co-hosting the Lilo racing which took place throughout the afternoon along with sharing her Lido stories with other visitors.

Regular Member and talented saxophonist Heather Hoyle raised the roof by entertaining visitors with an array of party tunes along with taking on the sport song requests from visitors.

London News covered the event story which can be read here

The Charlton Lido & Lifestyle Team would like to thank all visitors for making the event a success and sharing the day with our dedicated team.
