Following the re-opening of the Clissold Park Splash Pad in May and the start of the summer holidays in July, Splash Pad sessions for children with special educational needs and disabilities started on the 25th of July, taking place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10-11am until the end of the holidays.

This follows the successful implementation of SEND sessions across activities in other Hackney centres; such as soft play, sensory swims and swimming lessons. As with these sessions, the capacity of a standard session is reduced by half in order to provide more space for those taking part.

Studies have shown that water play can have a particularly positive effect on children with special educational needs or disabilities by:

  • Increasing sensory integration
  • Building strength and flexibility
  • Improving motor planning skills
  • Developing balancing skills
  • Increasingsocialization and communication opportunities
  • Encouraging water safety

The session has been advertised with a variety of local community organisations and has seen a positive uptake in the first half of the holidays. If you would like to book onto the session in advance then use our Better UK app, find the Clissold Park Splash Pad page and select your chosen Tuesday or Thursday during the holidays.
