Get excited - it’s less than a week to go until the Lido’s next bake sale, running all morning on Wednesday 8th May! Our regular charity cake sales are arguably one of the best, and certainly the tastiest, events at the Lido. Every few months, swimmers, staff and user-group enthusiasts pull together to showcase their finest bakes. In exchange for a donation, you can sample an impressive range of homemade goods - from Stella’s biscotti to Bernie’s mango cake. This time, our diligent bakers are raising money for Future Dreams, a London-based charity providing for those diagnosed with breast cancer. To whet your appetite, take a trip
down memory lane with us and read about the Lido’s cake sale history:

Solace
In 2023, it all kicked off with a fundraiser for Solace, a charity the lido has worked with continuously since. Solace is a women’s aid charity that offers support to women and children to build lives free from abuse. For this charity connection, we are grateful to lifeguard Jess, who regularly volunteers for Solace. We were so impressed with how many people baked for the event, but it was an even bigger surprise that all the stock sold out before the afternoon was over! Thanks to our bakers and generous customers, our first cake sale ended in a huge success with over £300 raised.

The Lido is lucky to have many inspiring women that uphold its community. You can find a selection of their stories here, gathered by swim doctor Naomi in celebration of International Women’s Day. For IWD 2024, the Lido partnered up with Solace again to release special edition swimming hats. Offering the hats at a reduced price, we asked swimmers to donate the difference (or more) to the charity, topping up proceeds from the cake sales. Within the ten-day sales period, Solace received over £1,200 in donations, a large proportion from Lido customers.

ecoActive
This February, the Lido held a cake sale for ecoActive - an environmental education charity, offering workshops and courses for schools and local community groups. One of ecoActive’s key investments is strengthening community gardens in Hackney, getting residents to work together to grow fresh fruit and vegetables. Their mission to improve the local environment lies close to our hearts at the Lido. Staff and customers alike agree that swimming and working amidst the towering trees of London Fields is a unique privilege we want to protect - even if those same trees keep us very busy all autumn sweeping up leaves on poolside! Once again, our bakers and customers smashed it, raising a whole £424 for the cause.

Future Dreams
For our next cake sale on Wednesday 8th May proceeds will go to Future Dreams. This charity aims to make sure nobody has to go through breast cancer alone (find out more about their work here). We welcome baked goods of any kind for the sale - please drop your creations off by Tuesday evening, with a note of the ingredients. Or, if you’re not much of a baker, why not stop by after your swim and enjoy some cake for a good cause?
