Mindfulness at Highgrove Pool and Fitness Centre

This September Highgrove Pool and Fitness Centre have launched brand new mindfulness classes. These classes are designed as a relaxing, and self-focused class where you can experience a range of guided meditations and learn the importance of being ‘still’.

What is meant by Mindfulness?

Mindfulness involves paying attention to what is going on inside and outside ourselves, moment by moment. It's easy to stop noticing the world around us. It's also easy to lose touch with the way our bodies are feeling and to end up living "in our heads" – caught up in our thoughts without stopping to notice how those thoughts are driving our emotions and behaviour. An important part of mindfulness is reconnecting with our bodies and the sensations they experience. This means paying attention to the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of the present moment. That might be something as simple as the feel of a banister as we walk upstairs. Another important part of mindfulness is an awareness of our thoughts and feelings as they happen moment to moment.

What are the benefits?

Studies have shown that mindfulness classes can have a real range of benefits, here is a few that people can expect (some of which can be seen from only one session!):

  • Better Physical Health
  • Stronger Relationships
  • Cognitive Improvements
  • Better Memory
  • Reduced Anxiety & Stress
  • Increased Emotional Regulation
  • Decreased Depression

What to expect in your class?

Once you’re all booked in make your way into the main studio where the lights will be dimmed and the mood set, grab a mat, grab your noise cancelling headphones and find a space to relax. As the class starts our instructor will talk through the headphones and guide you through some gentle mindfulness techniques whilst you spend the next 55minutes focusing on yourself and your health and wellbeing.

*Headphones and mats included however feel free to bring a blanket if it will help you relax*
