Highgrove Pool and Fitness Centre is here to not only keep your little ones busy but also teach them valuable swim skills too!

After last year’s success of our fantastic half-term Swim School Crash Course; this Easter half-term we are very excited to announce the return of our 5-Day Swim School Crash Courses but with added dates! These lessons are the perfect opportunity for children aged 4 and over to learn brand new swim skills and top up existing skills too! With our highly experienced and enthusiastic instructor Dave Ball running the lessons and small class sizes; your little ones are sure to have fun whilst they learn.

Whether it is their first time in the pool or they have already got some experience with swimming; your child(ren) will be sure to learn the essential skills needed to be safe in and around water. These lessons teach the basic techniques for all four strokes: Front Crawl; Back Stroke; Breast Stroke and Butterfly. Based in the warm, teaching pool there are two types of courses currently running; Foundation Non-Swimmer and Foundation Top-up. By the end of the Foundation Non- Swimmer Course; children come away feeling comfortable in and around the water whilst working on their Red and Amber milestones. Swimmers will be achieving up to their Green milestones of 10 metres in Front Crawl and Back Stroke by the end of the Foundation Top-up Course.

What are the milestones?

Red/Amber/Green milestones replace the previous Stage 1/2/3 swimming milestones. All stages teach the basic techniques for all four swim strokes and progressively get more advanced as the skill level and stages progress. Each stage also has a Safety Award and a Challenge Award built in to further your child(ren)’s progress.

As well as the focus on the swim strokes themselves:
Red milestone includes (but is not excluded to) things such as: blowing bubbles; signalling for help; following pool rules; exiting and entering the pool safely.
Amber milestone includes (but are not excluded to) things such as: jumping in the pool (star/ tuck/pencil); retrieving sinkers: performing a log roll and 180’ flip from front to back.
Green milestone includes (but is not excluded to) things such as: jumping in the pool at a depth of 1.2 metres; surface dive to swim through a hoop; tread water for 20 seconds with floats.

With up to 4 courses starting between 9am-10.30am each day; each running for one week there are plenty of opportunities to upskill the kids this Easter half-term.
Week 1 lessons will be running between Monday 2nd to Friday 7th April; with Week 2 running between Monday 10th to Friday 14th April. So there’s no better time to get on over to:  Better.org.uk/swimming-lessons to secure your little one(s) a place.
