Sobell Leisure Centre will celebrate the Great Winter Get Together, inspired by Jo Cox MP.  As part of the Great Winter Get Together weekend (12-15 January 2024), Sobell Leisure Centre will be holding a free social get together filled with fun activities on Monday 15th January.

Inspired by Jo Cox MP, the Great Get Together has been bringing communities together since 2017. Community events around the UK are acting as places where people can find meaningful connection is January, and show that winter doesn’t have to be lonely.

This year’s Great Winter Get Together at Sobell will bring together local people with hot drinks and snacks for all.  There will be a range of social activities available, including table tennis, short mat bowls, dominoes and board games.  There will also be the opportunity to take part in a free circuit’s fitness class led by our fitness instructor.

Mikael Kiviniemi, organiser for the event said:

“As a facility at the heart of our local community the Great Winter Get Together provides a fantastic opportunity for people to come together and socialise. Our staff will be on hand to offer a warm welcome to anyone wishing to attend.  There will be lots of fun filled activities available.  Whether you want to relax with a cup of tea or join in with some table tennis or bowls, there will be something for everyone”.

The event will take place from 10am to 1pm on Monday 15th January.  It is completely free and no booking is required.   Just turn up and join in the fun! For more information, please contact: Mikael.Kiviniemi@gll.org

In addition, Sobell hosts a Warm Space every Monday & Wednesday 10am-12pm.  The new initiative has been set up in response to this winter’s cost of living crisis and will offer anyone living in the vicinity of a participating leisure centre a warm welcome, comfortable seating, and the opportunity to play table tennis or dominoes. In addition, leading wholesale food service company Brakes, has agreed to donate free tea, coffee and biscuits.
