Stride into 2024 by taking advantage of one of our local parks and walking routes. Walking for 30 minutes a day or more is a great way to improve or maintain your overall health. Walking with others can turn exercise into an enjoyable social session. Walking is a  great way to improve your mental health,  increase cardiovascular fitness, strengthen bones, reduce excess body fat and boost muscle power and endurance. It is also a great way to see our beautiful parks

Stanborough Park is lucky enough to form part of the Welwyn Garden City Centenary Walking route. This 20.20km walk was established to celebrate the Centenary of Welwyn Garden City in 2020.

The route passes through the countryside on the fringes of the town and is a pleasant mix of scenery including, woodland, lakes and fields. The route can be found on line, and guided walks are provided by the Ramblers Association; you can also find a route map near the boat house on the North Lake.

Better are pleased to continue to work in partnership with the Hertfordshire Healthy Walks. The Healthy Walks programme is facilitated by Herts County Council and has a selection guided of walks within the borough. Graded walks include the First Steps Walk that takes place in Hatfield town Centre and is wheelchair and buggy friendly. More experienced walkers can experience a Sherrardswood Park walk or the Beehive Lane walk covering King George V Playing Fields and the local area surrounding, with a social coffee session after the walk.

All Health Walks are free and the friendly welcoming Walk Leaders are on hand to answer any questions you may have.  For timetables and more information please see the link below.

For more family based walking fun, Stanborough Park and King George V Playing Fields host Xplorer orienteering events. Xplorer is a family-friendly fun navigation challenge that is educational and gives children a sense of achievement and adventure as they explore the parks to find the markers and identify what is pictured and enjoy learning a fun fact to tell their friends. It involves a healthy mix of physical activity and decision-making that the whole family can enjoy together.

These themed events take place during many of the school holidays and are a great way for families to spend time together and explore the parks.
