Our Walking Cricket group at Abraham Moss Library & Leisure Centre began connecting in July 2024. The team have recently enjoyed a fantastic friendly match against fellow walking cricketers from Wythenshawe Forum, celebrating the growing success of a programme that continues to bring people together through sport.

What started with no participants has developed into a thriving weekly session, now regularly welcoming 10–12 players. Thanks to the continued support of Lancashire Cricket Foundation and local community organisation Rainbow Surprise, the programme has gone from strength to strength, creating opportunities for people to stay active, develop new friendships and enjoy cricket in a welcoming and supportive environment.

The recent fixture against Wythenshawe was a brilliant opportunity for players to put their skills into practice, experience some friendly competition and meet others who share their enthusiasm for the game.

Despite a closely contested match, Abraham Moss narrowly missed out on victory, finishing on 111 runs to Wythenshawe's 115. However, the result was only a small part of the occasion, with both teams enjoying a fantastic game played in great spirit.

Walking Cricket offers a more accessible version of the traditional game, allowing participants to enjoy the physical, mental and social benefits of cricket at a gentler pace. The emphasis is on participation, enjoyment and building connections, proving that cricket really is a sport for everyone.

The continued growth of the group is a fantastic example of what can be achieved through strong community partnerships. A huge thank you goes to Lancashire Cricket Foundation and Rainbow Surprise for their ongoing commitment to making these sessions a success.

Most importantly, congratulations to everyone who took part in the match. While the scoreboard may not have gone our way this time, the friendships formed, memories made and smiles shared made the occasion a real success.
