Tadworth Leisure & Community Centre welcomed the Mayor of Reigate and Banstead Nick Harrison, on Thursday 15 October 2026 for the unveiling of a new collection of historic photographs celebrating over 100 years of local history.

The new displays showcase the changing face of Tadworth and its surrounding communities, featuring photographs dating as far back as 1925. The collection offers visitors a fascinating glimpse into the area's past, highlighting familiar landmarks, historic streets and buildings that have shaped the local community.
Among the images are photographs from the former Banstead Sports Centre, including its swimming pool and gymnasium, alongside the original Phoenix Youth Centre. Visitors can also discover historic views of Tadworth's Station Approach, Shelvers Way, the Blue Anchor, the Church of the Good Shepherd and Tadworth Court Hospital.

We were also fortunate to be joined by Maria Hewson, Community Development Worker for Preston, alongside Sue Robinson, Better’s Area Community Sports Manager, for the official unveiling. Tadworth’s senior management team were delighted to showcase the impressive wall art installation, a project that has been more than 18 months in the making from initial concept through to completion. The display celebrates the rich history of Tadworth and reinforces the leisure centre’s role at the heart of the local community.

The collection includes photographs from The Francis Frith Collection, featuring remarkable scenes from the 1920s through to the 1960s, offering an opportunity for residents to see just how much their local area has changed over the generations.

The official unveiling took place alongside the Reigate & Banstead Borough Council Health Fair, bringing together a celebration of local heritage and community wellbeing. The project reflects Tadworth Leisure & Community Centre's commitment to being more than just a place for sport and fitness, creating a welcoming community space that celebrates the area's rich history and brings generations together.

We invite all members, visitors and local residents to come and explore the new historical displays, share their memories and discover a little more about the places that make Tadworth and its surrounding communities so special.
