Redevelopment Project

The historic swimming baths on Milton Road have been in need of an update for a long time and, thanks to funding from the Government’s Towns Fund, GLL, and Swindon Borough Council, the facility will reopen on 19th January 2026 following initial regeneration works.

This first phase of work includes:

  • The repair and conservation of a section of the building’s façade to Faringdon Road
  • Roof and valley gutter repairs
  • The conversion of the former Washing Baths Hall into a new entrance and reception area, gym and fitness suite
  • New accessible changing facilities
  • New plant areas to accommodate all future needs of the building
  • New heating and filtration systems for the large swimming pool
  • New ventilation systems to service the gym, changing areas and pool hall
  • Upgraded electrical supply to service the entire building

When is Health Hydro reopening?

The Health Hydro will re-open on Monday 19th January 2026.

What facilities and activity spaces will be available when the centre reopens?

The main pool will reopen alongside a brand-new gym offer in the washing baths hall. These facilities are complimented by full refurbished changing rooms which now include accessible changing facilities. 

What has changed?

The restoration project has delivered a range of improvements, including new changing rooms, a redesigned entrance hall, gym and activity space, enhanced energy efficiency, and new plant areas and equipment to support the building long-term and improve customer experience. 

When will the Turkish Baths reopen?

Funding has been secured to repair the roof of the Turkish Baths; this is a significant project and will ensure the internal area is now watertight. Further funding will need to be secured to repair and refurbish the Turkish Baths facilities before this can be re-opened to the public.  

What about the rest of the building?

GLL, Swindon Borough Council and other stakeholders and partners are working hard to identify further funding that will allow us to complete more restoration work to the wider building so that it can once again be utilised for community benefit activities. 
Some areas of the building may be used by community groups or GLL for other activity in the meantime. 

Are there any future phases of work planned?

Future phases of regeneration are planned. The Council has recently received approval for a second phase of works focused on the main pool hall, including improvements to the ventilation, accessibility and environmental performance, alongside further conservation and restoration work. 
Although funding for this has yet to be secured, the Council and Partners are working hard to identify funding options.

What swimming lessons will be available?

Swimming lessons will return to Health Hydro from 19th January. All previous customers have been contacted via email. Exclusive swimming lesson offers will be available prior to reopening. Any new swimming lessons will be advertised as they become available. Keep an eye on our website for further information in the coming weeks.
