Rivermead Leisure Centre is set to host it’s first Health and Wellbeing event this summer on 17th June.

From 10:00-15:00 on Wednesday the 17th of June, we will be welcoming into the centre a range of local health, wellbeing and social organisations to share the work they do and support they provide. This is a free to attend event, and organisations confirmed to join us so far include:

  • Together for Mental Wellbeing
  • Solutions4Health (Smoking Cessation)
  • The Florey Clinic Bus - delivering on the day sexual health screening and testing
  • Living Well Taking Control (Diabetes Prevention Programme) - running 'Know your risk' assessments
  • Reading Green Wellbeing Network
  • Age UK Berkshire
  • Walk Works
  • Reading Borough Council's Falls Prevention Team and Carer's lead
  • Community Health Champions
  • GLL's Reading Healthwise, Community, Swim and Health and Fitness Teams.

We will also be running a variety of activities and talks to get involved in throughout the day - topics for the talks include:

  • Nutrition myth busting from GLL's Healthwise team
  • The Diabetes Prevention Programme, by Living Well Taking Control
  • The Wellbeing Benefits of Connecting with Nature, from Reading Green Wellbeing Network.
  • A Dementia Information session from Age UK Berkshire.

Other activities include fun challenges, blood pressure and Q-risk checks, free tasters, refresher CPR demo's and much more.

10:30 - Pilates taster session with Maggie
11:20 - The Wellbeing Benefits of Connecting with Nature Talk from Reading Green Wellbeing Network
11:45 - Nutrition Myths - Separating Fact from Fiction with the GLL Healthwise Team
12:20 - CPR demonstration by our NPLQ trainer
12:45 - The NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme  (NDPP) Information Talk from Living Well Taking Control
13:30 - Dementia Information Session with Age UK Berkshire
14:20 - Seated Exercise Class with Caroline (Healthwise)

Summarised details of the day:

Location - Rivermead Leisure Centre, in the Sports Hall. This is ground floor and easily accessed from the entrance. Lifts are available at the centre should anyone want to have a look around while they're there.
Time - 10:00-15:00 - a schedule of events and activities will be released soon.
Parking - free for 3 hours. If staying longer, please scan the QR code at reception to pay for extended parking.
Food/Drink options - our onsite cafe serves hot and cold drinks and food.
Seating - there will be seating in the sports hall and the cafe to use at any time throughout the day if needed.

Reading Health and Wellbeing Day is free to attend, with no need to book - residents can simply turn up on the day and take part. This event welcomes non-members and members of the leisure centre.
