Reading and Oxfordshire Senior Club Games Return
Sixty-six competitors, aged sixty and over, have taken part in the second annual Reading and Oxfordshire Club Games.
Held at Rivermead Leisure Centre in Reading, participants took part in activities that included pickleball, table-tennis, badminton and short tennis. A timed swim at Carterton Leisure Centre in West Oxfordshire in September and at Rivermead in Reading also contributed to a points score that saw the Reading team declared overall winners.
South and Vale won the badminton competition, West Oxfordshire won the timed swim, and Reading came top in pickleball, short tennis and table tennis.
Every contestant was awarded a medal and Councillor Paul Gittings, the Mayor of Reading, and Colin Coughtrey, GLL National Community Manager, presented the trophies.
“Reading enjoyed a particularly successful games, taking victories in three of the four main sports and securing the overall title for the second consecutive year,” said Steph Smith, GLL Area Community Sport Manager.
“It was great to see so many people from across the region taking part and, most importantly, having fun.
“Our leisure centres have got some very strong senior programmes in place, and this event was all about bringing those taking part in them together for a day of competition and socialising. We’re really pleased it went so well.”
Well done to all participants who joined in this year - it was fantastic to see so many people.
