At Carterton Leisure Centre, we have been working to reduce our impact on the environment.

We have recently invested £2500 in new recycling stations. Which are situated at key points around the Centre.

Including the bellow:

  • Reception
  • Social Area
  • Gym
  • Wet change
  • Male Gym change
  • Female gym change
  • Trampoline Park and Soft Play
  • Studio
  • Spin Studio
  • Squash courts
  • Internal Corridors

Each station will be clearly labelled with what materials are placed into each bin.

These include:

  • Recycling
  • Plastic Bottles (Drink bottles, milk bottles, cleaning product containers)
  • Cans (Food tins an aluminum cans)
  • Paper (Newspapers, magazines, office paper, Junk Mail, Envelopes)
  • “Coffee” Cups (Plastic, Paper)
  • General Waste
  • Food Packaging (Food packaging, crisp packets, sandwich boxes)
  • Tissues (serviettes, napkins, wipes)
  • Pots (Yoghurt pots, coffee pods.)
  • Contaminated Recyclables
  • Packaging (Packing material, polystyrene)

The recent investment and addition of the recycling bins are just one of a few ways that we at Carterton Leisure Centre are being more energy efficient. These include:

  • Solar Panels of the roof
  • Reduction in electricity with LED lighting throughout the facility.

England is one of the worst recyclers of the developed nations, according to an international league table. We lie in 18th in the table, which is a comparison of the recycling rate in different countries, and how different countries recycle.

With that being said we are focusing on improving our impact on the planet.

One of our values at GLL is Respecting the Planet. We are reducing our impact on the environment through actions such as less reliance on fossil fuels and minimising waste; and working closely on joint actions with our local authority partners.
