Senior Activities

These sessions will include fun activities that have a sporting as well as a social element: working on improving balance, co-ordination and strength - benefiting both your physical and mental health; while finding new acquaintances that could build into long term friendships.

Move Together Programme

The Move Together programme at Better leisure centres in South Oxfordshire and the Vale of White Horse is targeted at older adults, beginners or anyone returning to exercise who wants to build confidence.

These classes are offered in partnership with the Move Together team at the Vale of White Horse District Council and are open to Move Together referrals, centre members and anyone who thinks the class could benefit them.

Starting on Monday 3rd November and Wednesday 5th November with free taster sessions! Come along to meet the instructor, Kim, see if the class is for you and ask any questions.

The classes will be just £5 afterward or included for free in Better Health memberships.

You can book on to the class beforehand (7 days for members, 5 days for non-members) or our friendly team will help you with the booking process on the day. Please note the centre only accepts card.

Chair-Based Exercise

Seated Exercise is a gentle, low-impact workout performed primarily from a chair, designed to keep you moving safely and comfortably. You’ll work on strength, mobility, posture, and circulation through simple, effective movements. This class aids falls prevention, helps keep your focus and provides both social and health benefits. It’s ideal for anyone with limited mobility, recovering from injury or looking for an easy way to stay active in a supportive, friendly environment led by Kim.

Functional Fitness Basics (Studio-Based)

With simpler movements and lower intensity, this class is perfect for people starting their fitness journey, older adults, and anyone looking to build confidence. You’ll train for daily tasks by practicing common movements and strengthening the muscles you use every day. For those who prefer, a chair can be used for extra support or seated variations. Join instructor Kim to improve your overall strength, coordination, and balance in a fun and encouraging atmosphere.

Swimming

Swimming is available throughout the day with swim for fitness and swim for all session’s. Swimming is a great all over body work out and suitable for all swimming abilities. There are lanes in all sessions with fast, medium and slow options

Yoga

Yoga is a physical, mental, and spiritual discipline that involves various postures, breathing techniques, and meditation.

Practicing yoga regularly has numerous benefits for both the body and mind, including increased flexibility, strength, and balance, reduced stress and anxiety, improved focus and concentration, and a greater sense of overall well-being.

Aqua Aerobics

Get your body moving to the beat whilst giving yourself an energising workout in the water. Our fun and friendly water workout classes give you all the benefits of cardiovascular exercise and provide natural levels of low-impact resistance that’s gentle on the joints.

Aerobics

Senior aerobics is a form of physical exercise that combines rhythmic aerobic movements with stretching and strength training to improve cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, balance, and muscle strength. It is designed specifically to take into consideration physical limitations and health conditions.

Pickleball

Pickleball is a sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis. It is played on a court with the same dimensions as a doubles badminton court, and the net is set at a similar height to a tennis net. The game is played with a paddle and a plastic ball with holes.

Senior activities can be found in a range of our memberships or you can pay as you go. Bookings are recommended either online, via our Better UK App or speak to our friendly team in centre.
