Welcome to Waltham Forest

Waltham Forest Council has been working in partnership with GLL for over 16 years and we are delighted to have strengthened our partnership with GLL following the award of a 25 year leisure management contract. The new contract provides an opportunity for major facility development in to the centres and a new offer of activity.

Waltham Forest Council is proud to be one of the host Olympic boroughs and we see this as an opportunity to inspire a generation – this is why we are delighted to announce £23 million investment in our Leisure centres. Some of the planned works include:

Walthamstow Leisure Centre (formally known as Kelmscott) – new gymnasium, resurfacing of the outdoor pitch, new flooring in entrance hall is to be refurbished, sports hall floor and lighting.

Leyton Gym (formally known as Plumtree Centre) – remodelling to create a new fitness gym

Leyton Leisure Lagoon (currently closed, due to open late 2013) – major refurbishment of pool hall, reception, changing rooms and installation of a learning pool.

Cathall Leisure Centre – complete refurbishment of all areas including a new cafe and extension to the rear to create a 2 court sports hall.

Waltham Forest Pool & Track – For those who want to follow in the footsteps of Rebecca Adlington or Tom Daley the Pool and Track will be rebuilt from the ground up and offer state-of-the-art swimming and diving facilities. As part of the refurbishment the centre will be renamed Waltham Forest Leisure Centre.

This investment is a clear statement of intent from the council, to ensure local residents have fit for purpose, high quality and accessible facilities, to begin or continue a lifetime of sporting achievement.

We are installing a teaching pool at the Leyton Leisure Lagoon site thus improving our offer of wet side facilities in the borough ensuring all facilities can provide a range of teaching opportunities. Waltham Forest Council have been providing Free swimming for Under 18 & over 60’s since 2010, and we feel by installing teaching pools this will complement our offer.

All our leisure centres offer a range of activities across various sites and there has never been a better time to try out the many sports and facilities on offer close to where you live.

Apart from our Leisure Centres, Waltham Forest is well located for access to large open green spaces such as Epping Forest, Wanstead Flats, Chingford Plains, Walthamstow and Leyton Marshes. We also have smaller green spaces throughout the borough and many parks that have achieved Green Flag status.

The combination of being a host Olympic and Waltham Forest Councils investment in Green spaces, Parks and Leisure Centres - will lead to a lasting legacy, of residents living healthier and more active lives.
