Christmas should be a time filled with excitement, surprises and smiles, but for many families, the festive season brings added pressure instead of joy.

New figures from the Joseph Rowntree Foundation reveal that 4.3 million children in the UK are living in poverty, and with the cost of living crisis continuing, that number is expected to rise above 4.9 million next year.

At Lee Valley White Water Centre, we believe every child deserves to feel the magic of Christmas. That’s why we’re proud to be partnering with local charities once again for the 2025 Giving Tree Appeal - a simple but powerful way you can help brighten Christmas morning for a child in our community.

Why Your Gift Matters

Many parents are facing impossible choices right now - heating or food, bills or Christmas presents. The Giving Tree Toy Appeal supports families experiencing real financial hardship, ensuring that children who might otherwise go without receive a brand new gift chosen just for them.

Children are nominated by community partner organisations who work directly with local families, so your donation goes straight to those who need it most.

Here’s how to take part:

  • Choose a tag from the Giving Tree at Lee Valley White Water Centre
  • Buy a brand new gift for the child on your tag
  • Attach the tag to the present
  • Drop it off at our reception before 14 December

(We’ll still accept gifts until 1 January, but early donations help us ensure children receive their presents in time for Christmas Day!)

Every tag taken, every gift donated, every moment of generosity - it all adds up to a brighter Christmas for families right here in our community.

From all of us at Lee Valley White Water Centre, thank you for helping us share the magic. Wishing you a very Merry Christmas!
