Traditional Japanese Arts
Iaido (art of drawing the Japanese sword) and Jodo (way of the staff) are traditional Japanese Arts which have evolved over the centuries. Although based on the Samurai fighting arts, both are now used to build up core strength, concentration, composure and development of the self.
Introduced in the UK in the early nineteen eighties by the Japanese, the dojo at Crystal Palace, Seishinkan SW, has it's head dojo in Ealing under the leadership of Chris Mansfield Sensei one of the first practitioners of both arts in the UK. Hilary Hadley who leads the dojo in Crystal Palace is one of his original students, and one of the few women dojo leaders in the country. The dojo is affiliated to the British Kendo Association.
Both arts are suitable for men and woman, and the club accepts beginners who are looking for something different, and something which will help them develop both physically and mentally. Both can be practiced from childhood until old age, evolving and changing with the practitioner.
The class meets on Saturday's at 12.20pm to 2pm at Dance Studio 2. Basic equipment would be provided to get a beginner started.
