Salary: Up to £16.23 an hour

Key aspects of the role will include:
• Delivery of excellent swimming lessons with knowledge of practices, progression and teaching points and how these should be applied
• Aware of pupils status, nature and needs
• Administration that is necessary to fulfil the National Plan for Teaching Swimming
The successful candidate will have:
• Qualified and trained
• Minimum level 2 ASA certificate for teaching swimming
• Relevant qualification for other disciplines where required
• ASA Learn to Swim Framework, swimming skills, techniques and awards
• National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches desirable
• Attendance at core training.

A team from Merton represented their borough when competing against 750 over 55-year-olds at the 2015 Better Club Games and Olympic-style event for older people that was held at the Copper Box Arena on Tuesday 17th November 2015. Out of the 19 borough's that competed Merton finished 6th, with the plan to go even higher next year.
The annual event was run by the UK’s largest public leisure provider Better, the consumer facing brand of charitable social enterprise GLL. It was hosted for the second time at the former 2012 Olympic venue, sited on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford. The event aims to encourage older people to become more active and to highlight the social and physical benefits that sporting activities can offer to individuals of all ages.

The Morden Leisure Centre project is now well underway in terms of planning and design. Merton Council has announced in their latest project newsletter the appointment of a team of specialists who will be heading up the next stages of the new centre project.
Quality Surveyors and Principle Designers services have now been secured and will be taking this project forwards. Gardiner & Theobald have been appointed as Chief Quality Surveyors who have a significant background in delivering leisure projects. Sweet Group have been appointed as Principle designers, and will ensure that the designs are safe to build, and can be operated and maintained by the user during the life of the project.

On the 17th November the Copper Box Arena located on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park will host the 10th annual Better Club Games. The event will once again see around 600 participants aged 55 and over representing different London Boroughs and regions, competing in various sporting events and activities. In much the same vain as previous years, the London Aquatics Centre will play host to the Timed Swim event, with this show piece event due to get underway at midday.
