Following a successful taster session in January, which saw 35 women take to court, England Netball are pleased to confirm that a brand new Walking Netball session is set to launch in Bath this September. Walking Netball is one of the newest forms of Walking sports to emerge in our communities and England Netball are inviting women in the Bath & North East Somerset area to come and give it a try during an initial 7 week programme at Better's Culverhay Leisure Centre.

The rules are essentially the same as the traditional game, but by reducing the speed and taking out jumping, the game becomes much more accessible to those who are less active, injured or have previously been unable to take part due to ongoing illness. – with less impact/stress on the joints, Walking Netball leaves plenty more time for lots of laughter and fun. Since its launch in January 2016, England Netball have been running a number of sessions across the country which have engaged hundreds of women - many of whom haven’t played netball in over 40 years and who’s ages generally range from 30 – 80yrs+. The game is proving a real ‘life changer’ and participants are not only seeing an improvement in their general fitness (including lower heart rates and blood pressure), but many have seen improvements with specific physical ailments and mental health too.

Emily Harrison, Avon and Wiltshire’s Netball Development Officer from England Netball said “As we all get older, staying active and keeping fit becomes a vital part of making sure we can not only manage every day life, but helps us to ensure that we are living a better quality of life too. Walking Netball is totally accessible to all ages and abilities and is perfect for anyone who wants a fun way to get out of the house and get some gentle exercise.”

“Ladies have been attending our sessions for all types of reasons, and one of the reasons they keep returning is the camaraderie and social networks that are built at our sessions. Every session I have visited has been full of chatter and laughter – both of which makes exercise much easier to commit to! I can’t wait to launch the session in September.”

Sessions are led by a fully trained and friendly Walking Netball host who will welcome you to the session and then take you through a gentle warm up and some basic skills. Every session involves an opportunity to play a full game of Walking Netball, and relearn the rules and the positions, and ultimately have fun being active!

The new session will be launching on Saturday 2nd September at Culverhay Leisure Centre (10:30-11:30am) costing just £3.50. The programme will initially be running weekly for 7 weeks, with the hope a group can be established to continue the session in the future.  Anyone interested is asked to register with Emily Harrison at or 07540126813.
