Better | Merton to help raise £500k for Sport Relief

Since becoming the official health and fitness partner for Sport Relief 2016, we have announced some of the ways we will help customers to walk, run, swim and cycle while fundraising £500,000 for Sport Relief.

Our staff and customers have been putting their heads together to devise a series of spectacular sporting events that will combine efforts to pool funds under #Teambetter and help those who are training for the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Games, taking place Friday 18th - Sunday 20th March.

10,000 Better staff in leisure centres, gyms, pool, libraries and children’s centres will capture the energy, ideas, sporting talent and enthusiasm of users during an estimated 3 million customer visits to meet the fundraising target through a variety of sporting challenges.

Merton team shows age is no barrier to fun and fitness at Better Club Games

A team from Merton represented their borough when competing against 750 over 55-year-olds at the 2015 Better Club Games and Olympic-style event for older people that was held at the Copper Box Arena on Tuesday 17th November 2015.  Out of the 19 borough's that competed Merton finished 6th, with the plan to go even higher next year.
The annual event was run by the UK’s largest public leisure provider Better, the consumer facing brand of charitable social enterprise GLL.  It was hosted for the second time at the former 2012 Olympic venue, sited on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford.  The event aims to encourage older people to become more active and to highlight the social and physical benefits that sporting activities can offer to individuals of all ages.
