We're pleased to announce that in partnership with Newham Council, we're investing in some major improvements at Atherton Leisure Centre.
Work begins on Monday 28th September 2026 with the gym upgrades and then we will follow with the upgrades to the soft play. For more detail about what to expect, please keep scrolling.
Be prepared for some fantastic upgrades to Atherton's gym & studio, including:
The second phase of the refurbishment includes upgrading and relocating the soft play. We'll be bringing you a new under 10s soft play structure located in the current programmable gym. This locally themed soft play will have a dedicated under 2s sensory area too, so your little ones have a safe space to play and explore.
When the work has been completed, the old soft play area will become a new dedicated spectator area for the swimming pool.
To allow this work to go ahead, there will be some temporary disruption to be aware of.
Work begins on Monday 28th September with the creation of the brand new programmable gym. This new gym will be located within a section of the current main gym, separated off as its own private space by a dividing wall we'll be building.
While this area is under construction, it will be closed to public use. No other areas of the leisure centre, or the wider programme, will be affected during this time.
Once this area is complete, we will move on to refurbishing the remainder of the gym — further details will be announced nearer the time.
Thank you for your patience whilst these exciting improvements take place. We cannot wait for you to enjoy these new upgraded facilities soon.
