Welcome to the gym at Sugden Sports Centre. Located close to Manchester University and Manchester Metropolitan University, this gym is ideal for students and city centre residents. Recently upgraded with brand-new Matrix cardio equipment, the gym offers a full range of training spaces, from cardio and resistance to strength, free weights and functional fitness. Whether you want to lift, run, row or box, you’ll find the facilities and support you need to hit your goals.

What's Available at The Gym?

With upgraded Matrix cardio kit, dedicated strength and resistance zones, and a spacious free weights area, Sugden Sports Centre Gym has everything you need to train your way. Take a look.

Cardio Zone

Our cardio zone is packed with the latest Matrix kit, including 12 treadmills, five cross trainers, upright and recumbent bikes, air row machines, Assault bikes and even a Ski-erg and Stairmill. You’ll also find 18 spin bikes for cycle training. With so much choice, it’s easy to keep your workouts fresh and push your stamina further.

Functional Zone

Our functional zone is all about dynamic training that mimics real-life movements. With plyo boxes, punch and kick bags, step boxes, ab wheels, battle ropes, slam balls and medicine balls, you can mix up your workouts to build stability, strength and flexibility.

Resistance machinces at Sugden Sports Centre

Resistance Area

If you prefer pin- or cable-loaded machines, our resistance area has you covered. Kit includes leg extensions and curls, ab crunch and glute kickback machines, assisted dip and multipress stations, plus a variety of row and lat pulldown options. Perfect for training safely with controlled movement.

Strength Area

The strength zone is home to a superb range of Matrix equipment designed for building power and performance. From a 45-degree leg press and hack squat to Smith machines, plate-loaded hip thrusts, calf raises and shoulder presses, you’ll find everything you need for targeted strength training.

Free Weights

Sugden’s free weights zone is designed for both beginners and advanced lifters. You’ll find dumbbells up to 50kg, pre-weighted barbells up to 45kg, Olympic weightlifting platforms, benches, sandbags and kettlebells. Whatever your training style, there’s space and equipment to help you progress.
