Senior membership FAQs

How old do I have to be to qualify for a Senior membership?

Most senior memberships are aimed at people over 60s. Senior memberships are available to anyone aged 66 and over as standard, reflective of the UK’s current state pension age. However, some locations have a lower qualifying age of 60 and above.

For more detailed information about age requirements at a facility near you, please check the membership criteria when signing up online. Alternatively, you can get specific information about what’s on offer for over 60s by getting in touch with the team at your local centre.

Are there equipment and facilities tailored for senior adults?

All gyms are equipped with easy-to-use machines and facilities for all ages. For those looking to do low-impact cardio, you can find elliptical machines in your gym. Workouts using these machines are much easier on your joints, making them ideal for keeping active.

If you're new to the gym or looking to learn how to safely use the equipment, we also offer free gym inductions to help you feel more comfortable and confident.

What types of Senior memberships are available with Better?

Most Senior memberships include access to all facilities regionally or nationally, which is perfect if you live near multiple centres and enjoy different types of workouts from gym to swim to sports.

However, there are also centre-only memberships available, in addition to off-peak memberships which include additional concessions.

Senior member prices vary based on your local centre and choice of membership. You can find out more about what’s available near you when signing up.

How do I sign up for a Senior membership?

You can easily sign up for a Senior membership online or by visiting your nearest Better gym or leisure centre.

When signing up online, begin by locating your nearest centre. Once you’ve found yours, choose a senior membership from the drop-down menu. You can then also choose whether you’d like to pay for your membership by monthly Direct Debit, or as an upfront payment for the whole year.

Can I try out the facilities before I commit to a membership?

We offer free tours of the facilities at all of our centres with a member of our team. During this time, you can freely ask any questions you may have and see our facilities for yourself. Simply check the opening times at your local centre and pop in.

If you'd like to test the facilities before committing, you can sign up to our pay as you go membership or purchase a day pass* which includes options for one, seven, or 30 days.

*Please note that day pass rates are not adjusted for senior concessions.

Which senior exercise classes are included with my membership?

We offer a range of fitness classes suitable for senior adults, including cardio, strength and mind and body workouts.

In general, most memberships include access to gym and leisure centre facilities across the region. This allows you to try out a range of sessions ideal for seniors like our low-impact or dance-inspired classes, swimming and aqua aerobics, or racquet sports such as badminton.

Class availability varies from centre to centre, so we recommend checking the booking platform to view the most up-to-date timetable for your local facility.

I’m under 65, what other concessionary memberships are on offer?

No matter what support you may need with accessing a gym or leisure centre near you, we have a range of reduced memberships on offer.

From physical activity referral programmes to our off-peak and inclusive membership options, explore our selection of discounted memberships to find the right option for you.
