Lee Valley Hosts Second Para Standing Tennis Tournament
Players from across the UK took part in the second Lee Valley Para Standing Tennis Tournament, a fantastic event, promoting inclusive sport.
The tournament brought together players of all ages, backgrounds and skill levels, united by a shared commitment to Para Standing Tennis. This is an emerging adaptation of the game, designed for individuals with physical impairments who choose to play without the use of a wheelchair. The format is gaining popularity for its accessibility as well as focus on community and competition.
Hosted at Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre (the only purpose built paralympic venue for the London 2012 Olympic games), the tournament was supported by the LTA and organised by Lee Valley Regional Park Authority’s Active Communities team.
Among the standout competitors was Georgia Routledge, the reigning 2024 Para Standing World Champion and runner up at the 2023 European Championships. Reflecting on the event’s growth, the 20 year old said:
“It was encouraging to see how much the tournament has grown since last year. Not just with more people, but with some seriously impressive talent. The day was jam packed, with lots of inspiration, great matches and sunshine all around!”
Rachel Seddon, Venue Manager said, “We’re incredibly proud to host the Para Standing Tennis Tournament for a second year. This event embodies everything we stand for: accessibility, community and a passion for sport.”
With its unique setting and growing support, the tournament continues to shine a light on a dynamic and inclusive version of tennis that’s inspiring a new generation of players.
