Tennis resurfacing

Please be aware of upcoming disruption to indoor courts at Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre.

We'd like to make all customers aware that we’re having our indoor courts resurfaced from Monday 11 May for an expected three weeks.

During this period the indoor courts will be unavailable and all tennis will be moved outside for the duration of these works.

Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding whilst the indoor courts resurfaced.

FAQs

What do you mean resurfacing?

The indoor tennis courts at Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre are constructed with a durable acrylic playing surface laid over a concrete base. As part of our planned resurfacing programme, the top acrylic layer will be carefully renewed.

This process helps to maintain a safe, consistent and high-quality playing surface for our tennis community. The renewed courts will have the same surface as currently in place, ensuring a familiar look and playing experience, while enhancing overall performance and longevity.

How long will it take?

The works are currently scheduled to take up to three weeks to complete. This timeframe allows for each stage of the process to be carried out carefully and to the highest standard.

We will, of course, aim to complete the works as efficiently as possible and any further updates will be shared.

Why are you doing it this year?

Our indoor courts are typically designed with an expected lifespan of around ten years. Due to reduced usage during the pandemic period, we were able to extend this timeframe slightly.

As the courts have now reached the end of their planned lifecycle, resurfacing is being undertaken as part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining high-quality facilities. This proactive approach ensures we continue to provide high quality, safe, consistent and enjoyable playing environment for all of our players.

Why are you doing it in May?

The timing of the work in May was carefully considered. We reviewed usage data, operational requirements, and seasonal factors to identify a window that would minimise overall disruption while still allowing the work to be completed efficiently and safely.

What will happen with my tennis class?

We're planning for the majority of our tennis classes to continue as scheduled, with most being temporarily relocated to our outdoor courts during the resurfacing period.

We anticipate very few cancellations or significant changes. If your class is affected in anyway, a member of our team will contact you directly with full details.

Will we get a refund if our class is cancelled?

Yes, in the event that a class needs to be cancelled as a result of the works, you will be provided with a link to claim a refund for the affected session(s).

Our team will contact you directly with clear instructions and we'll aim to make the process as straightforward as possible.

Will we get a refund if our class is rained off?

Outdoor sessions are delivered in line with our normal wet weather policy. Your coach will assess the conditions at the scheduled start time and make a decision based on safety and court playability.

If the weather is considered too severe for the class to go ahead, the session will be cancelled and a refund will be issued. Please note that weather conditions at Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre can sometimes differ from those in other areas, so decisions are always made based on conditions on site.

Will we still have access to the changing rooms?

Yes, the changing rooms will remain open and available for use throughout the works.
