Lee Valley Athletics Centre, the iconic sports venue in north London, is currently undergoing a major refurbishment project. The sports and leisure venue, which has been the training ground for several famous Olympic athletes including Jonnie Peacock, Greg Rutherford, Dwain Chambers and twin sisters Lina and Laviai Nielsen, will receive over £688,000 of investment giving this much loved venue a well-deserved makeover to enhance its facilities. 

Works begun in April, which will see the transformation of the current Ron Pickering meeting room into a state of the art fitness class studio. Once the fitness class studio is complete, work will begin on upgrading the changing areas and remodelling the reception area. The extensive refurbishment project will also include improvements to the Strength and Conditioning suite as well as the gym and cardio area, previously known as Challenge Central. Ultimately, the refurbishment works are scheduled to be completed by September 2023.

Over £170,000 of the investment budget will be spent on the latest Technogym equipment, ensuring that the centre's fitness facilities are continued to be recognised among the best in the country.

Lee Valley Athletics Centre has long been a popular training ground for athletes of all levels, and this refurbishment project will ensure that it remains at the forefront of sports training facilities in the UK. Matthew Robinson, General Manager at Lee Valley Athletics Centre described his excitement by explaining that “this upgrade will provide our athletes and members with a modern and fully equipped facility that caters to their every need”.

The refurbishment project will last approximately 18 weeks, with the centre remaining open during the work. Athletes and visitors can rest assured that they will continue to receive the same high-quality service and facilities throughout the refurbishment process as customer disruption will be kept to a minimum

In addition to providing top-class facilities for athletes, Lee Valley Athletics Centre also serves as a venue for various community events and sports programmes welcoming visitors from all corners of the community. The refurbishment project will further enhance the centre's ability to cater to a range of activities and events for the local community but more importantly, give more people the opportunity to improve their health as well as wellbeing.
