We can bring the books to your own door, whether you would like one or two books, or would be interested in a wider selection of titles each month, Bromley Home Library Service is designed for people struggling to make a trip to their local library and it can bring books to your home instead. This free service is available for any Bromley resident who is unable to reach and use their local library for various reasons, which might include long-term illness, being unable to leave the house, blind or partially sighted people, carers of adults or children, recovering from an operation, or just unable to carry heavy books home.
Bromley Home Library Service is an initiative between Bromley Libraries and the Royal Voluntary Service, whereby volunteers can make monthly visits to people’s homes. Firstly they will make sure what your interests and tastes are and what day the volunteers can call each month. They will then bring selected items which can include hardback, paperback, large print and talking books; books in different languages, music CDs, DVDs and any information you need. And there is always time for a good chat!
Feedback from one of our readers:
‘The Home Service library is a lifeline to those who enjoy nothing more than a good read – it has been my salvation for the last two years, with the added bonus of the volunteers finding a selection of books we may enjoy. Long may it continue its excellent service! (Doreen)
‘I have been using HLS for about 10 years. It really is a lifeline, and something I would miss terribly if it was not available.’ - Pam
