Hundreds of riders take on Brompton World Championships at Lee Valley VeloPark

Around 300 riders took part in the main race programme, competing across eight heats before the fastest riders progressed to the men’s and women’s finals.

The event brought its own unique style to the Road Circuit, with riders encouraged to wear fancy dress while cycling specific clothing was not allowed, apart from helmets.

Each race began with the event’s famous Le Mans style start. Riders ran to their folded bikes, unfolded them as quickly as possible and then took to the circuit for five laps, with eight laps in the finals.

New for 2026 was the Team Relay, which saw more than 100 riders compete in teams of four. Brompton’s event page also highlighted the relay as one of the major additions to this year’s championship.

Away from the racing, spectators could try a Brompton bike in the O Loop activation area, while the Western Plaza was transformed into the main event village with sponsor activations, food and drink and a central stage for announcements and commentary.

The event welcomed an estimated 2,000 to 3,000 people across the day, creating a lively atmosphere around the venue and giving spectators plenty to enjoy alongside the racing.

It was a brilliant showcase of Brompton’s cycling community and a great example of the Road Circuit being used for a major participation event.
