Balham Library: temporary Children's Library from Wednesday 25th February
We are delighted to be refreshing and modernising the Children’s and Teen Libraries to create brighter, more welcoming spaces for families.
To support the works, a temporary Children’s Library will open downstairs from Wednesday 25 February, ensuring children can continue to enjoy books and activities throughout the refurbishment. This will however, mean reduced study and IT space during this period.
We appreciate your patience while we make these exciting improvements for the community, and the library team will be on hand to help you find what you need.

Wandsworth Sanctuary Project

Wandsworth Libraries have partnered with Wandsworth Welcomes Refugees and Wandsworth Council, through the Borough of Sanctuary Fund, to Bring Sanctuary Home.

This project aims to acknowledge the migration and refugee experiences, to encourage understanding, compassion and welcome from others and to celebrate the contribution of refugees in Wandsworth and the UK.

A special collection of books has been curated and is being hosted by the borough’s three Family Hubs in Battersea, Tooting and Roehampton. These books cover a diverse range of themes and includes books in community languages.

These books are by a range of authors, from household names and those with lived experience and are sure to engage readers young and old.
Alongside this book collection, a series of events will be running across the borough in to 2026. Join us for crafts, book discussions, talks and more.

Across Wandsworth, the stories of refugees and migrants have become woven into the heart of our borough - enriching our neighbourhoods, our schools, our workplaces, and our libraries. To honour these voices, we’ve curated a collection of books for readers of all ages that explore journeys of hope, courage, home‑making, and belonging.

The borough’s family hubs are all hosting a selection of these books, but you’ll also find items on these themes in all of the Borough’s branches. If you can’t get down to a library, why not borrow a e-book or digital audio item through our Overdrive special collection.

Past Events

These events have already taken place but are well remembered as events where our communities came together. If they give you ideas for future events in Wandsworth Libraries, why not talk to a member of staff?

In November 2025 we celebrated the anniversary of the UN Convention of the Rights of the Child with stories of community and welcome.  We explored our creativity with a bird decorating class.

Refuge and Christmas Craft

In December 2025 we read a timely and timeless retelling of the Christmas story, inspired by refugee children everywhere.  We stayed to make Christmas stars
