Improvements to leisure in Reading

Reading’s leisure service is changing for the better!

Reading Council is investing £40 million in modern new leisure facilities – including a new flagship leisure centre.

Delivered in parnership with GLL, Reading Council are delighted to have completed works at Palmer Park in east Reading, with a brand-new facility including new 6-lane community pool linked to the existing sports facilities, as well as improvements to leisure centres at South Reading and Meadway. The brand-new Rivermead Leisure Centre has also recently opened, offering a 6-court sports hall with 250 spectator seats, 120-station gym with 3 studios, café/ info hub and soft play!

In addition, we are working hard to enhance the swimming provision at Rivermead from summer 2024, with:

  • A 25m 8-lane competition pool and 300 spectator seats
  • A combined teaching and diving pool with moveable floor
  • Splash Pad
