Skating is a fun and enjoyable way to stay active and improve your balance and coordination while spending time with family and friends. At Cambridge Ice Arena, our ice rink provides extensive lessons, courses, and public ice skating sessions for every ability. From beginners to experienced skaters, there’s something for everyone looking to hone their skills or have a fun day out with family and friends.

Pre-book your session online to avoid disappointment. Please note that we are a cashless facility.

Your session booking slot includes time for arrival, movement to the activity, collection of skates, activity time and changing.

Skate hire is available and costs £3 per session. Skate sizes range from a child size 7 to an adult size 15, but feel free to bring your own.

Public Ice Skating

Have fun on the ice with family and friends. Whether you are a superstar in training or a beginner stepping out on the ice for the first time, our public ice skating sessions are suitable for all abilities and open for general public (minimum age 3+).

For those who may need extra support, we have polar bear skating aids that can be their companion on the ice and help them find their feet. Pick it up quickly, as these fun little aids are extremely popular, and there can be a wait for one during peak sessions.

Disco Ice

Get ready to glide and groove to the rhythm of the music as we illuminate the rink with dazzling disco lights and jam out to all the beloved classic hits. Our Disco Ice sessions are the perfect way to let loose, have fun, and get some exercise at the same time!

Disco sessions take place every Friday night from 20:30-22:00 and can be booked via the app or online as a public skating session.

Ice Skating Lessons

Boost your fitness, balance and strength in a fun and social environment with ice skating. We offer group and private lessons for all ages and abilities, led by experienced coaches. Free skate hire is included.

Our group lessons will guide you through the nationally recognised Skate UK syllabus.

Training Ice (Patch Ice)

Patch ice sessions are suitable for those under private tuition with a professional ice coach. You are required to be above Skate UK Level 8 and have your own figure skates. 1-2-1 lessons are available during patch ice and can be booked separately with one of our ice coaches.

We have 3 different available patch ice sessions:

'Patch Ice sessions' are for Skate UK level 5 and above (only available at limited times during weekdays)

'Advanced Patch' is for Skate UK Level 8 and above (our main available sessions)

'Competitive Patch' is for BIS National 8 and above (only available at limited times during weekdays)

Coffee Skate

Coffee skate is aimed at ages 14+ and is not for general skating. It is a coached session followed by a hot drink in our rinkside cafe.

All abilities are welcome, but we do require you to be able to skate forwards unassisted to enable you to get the most out of your session. Skate aids are not available on this session.

Ticket includes a 1 hour session, skate hire and a hot drink collected at the end of the session.

We have exclusive seasonal Member-Only skating sessions on weekends.

Member-Only sessions are free for the following memberships:

Those with Learn to Skate, Academy or Patch memberships can access Member-Only sessions for a discounted price.

Better Ice Adult

For those with a valid student ID or CamCard, includes unlimited access to public skating sessions, discount for patch ice (depending on skating level eligibility) and free access to weekend Member-Only sessions.

For those ages 3-15 years, includes unlimited access to public skating sessions, discount for patch ice (depending on skating level eligibility) and free access to weekend Member-Only sessions.

Better Ice Adult Training

For ALL ages eligible for Patch ice sessions. It includes unlimited access to patch ice sessions, with discount for public skating sessions and discounted access to weekend Member-Only sessions.

Better Health Partnership Plus Ice

Includes access to public and patch ice sessions (if eligible for patch), and access to gym, swimming and Fitness classes in Cambridge centres. It also gives free access to weekend Member-Only sessions.

What sizes of hire skates do you have available?

We have skates available to hire from size UK Junior 7 up to UK adult 15.

We unfortunately do not have half sizes. You are welcome to try on a few different sizes if you need to.

Do you have skate aids?

We do! We have two types of skate aids:

For younger children, we have skate aids that can be used with the child pushing it or sitting on it. Your child needs to be below 1.2m (with skates on) to be able to hire this skating aid.
For everyone else, we have larger polar bear skate aids that can be pushed along.

We have a limited amount of skate aids, they are given out on a first come first serve basis and cost £6 for the session.

What is the difference between the three available Patch Ice sessions?

We have three available types of Patch Ice available:

'Patch Ice' slots are for figure skaters who have passed Skate UK Level 5 and above.
'Advanced Patch Ice' are for figure skaters who have passed Skate UK Level 8 or above. These are the main Patch training sessions available. If you have a 1-1 private lesson booked onto Advanced patch and have not passed Level 8, you are allowed to enter onto the slot for your lesson time only.
'Competitive Patch Ice' are for figure skaters who have passed BIS National 8 and above.

What type of skates are allowed on sessions?

Public Skating Sessions

We allow figure and hockey skates on public skating sessions. We unfortunately do not allow speed skates on public skating sessions.

Patch Ice Sessions

Patch ice sessions are for figure skates only.

Do you accept large group bookings?

We offer group booking discounts onto our public skating sessions for schools, scouts, charities and corporate groups. We can host large bookings of up to 180 people on our public skating sessions.We also offer private hires for large groups.
