Hot Weather and Cool Spaces
During periods of hot weather, residents and visitors can access free drinking water and a cooler place to rest at our local libraries. These spaces are available for anyone who may need to sit quietly, cool down, and ask staff for drinking water. We encourage you to use facilities close to where you are and to avoid travelling too far, especially in extreme heat. Please note that our libraries are not medical facilities; if you feel unwell or require medical attention, you should seek appropriate health advice.

Further information on cool spaces across London can be found on the London City Hall website.

No. All items currently on loan from Bromley Central Library will be automatically renewed until 30 September 2026.

Can I still reserve books?
You can still reserve books for collection at other libraries, however please note that as Central Library stock and reserve stock will be unavailable during the relocation period, some reservations may take longer than usual to be fulfilled.

Can I collect reservations from temporary library locations?
No, our pop-up libraries are unable to hold reservations for collection, so reservations cannot be collected from the temporary pop-up library locations.

Where can I study?
Study space will not be available at the temporary library locations.
Customers looking for study space are encouraged to visit West Wickham Library or Beckenham Library. Please check their webpages for opening times before travelling.

Where can I browse adult books?
During the first phase of the relocation, adult browsing stock will not be available at our pop-up locations, and we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
For the largest ranges of adult books, we recommend visiting Beckenham Library or Orpington Library. Alternatively, you can place a free reservation through the library catalogue and collect it from any Bromley Library.

Will computers, printing, scanning and Wi-Fi be available?
During the first phase of the relocation, computers, printing, scanning and Wi-Fi will not be available at our pop-up temporary Central Library locations, and we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

These services will return on a small scale when our pop-up library opens at The Glades Restaurant Terrace from 15th September.

I cannot travel to another library. What support is available?
Customers who are unable to access an alternative library because of age, health or transport difficulties can contact the Home Library Service for support.

What is happening to reading groups?
Reading groups will continue to meet in alternative locations during the relocation. Library staff will contact existing group members directly with further details in due course.

Will archive materials still be available?
No, during the relocation period archive materials will not be accessible at our temporary pop-up libraries due to the need to maintain safe conditions for handling historic materials.
The Bromley Historic Collections team will be visiting libraries across the borough while the move is taking place, to find out more visit their webpage here

How can I contact the library during the move?
Please be aware that the Central Library phone service may be affected during parts of the relocation period. If you are unable to reach your local library, please check this page for updates and alternative contact arrangements.
