Bedford Partnership community news for August
First year of HAF delivery in Bedford is a hit
GLL successfully delivered an engaging, inclusive and varied programme of Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) activities across Bedford this summer, providing children and young people with opportunities to be physically active, develop new skills and build confidence in a safe and welcoming environment.
A key highlight was the delivery of GLL’s first HAF camp at Robinsons Pool and Fitness. The programme combined structured swimming lessons with a wide range of enrichment activities, including pool safety and water awareness, yoga, healthy eating education and other physical and wellbeing-focused activities.
Terminally Boy has his wish come true
John Bunyan Sports and Fitness provided an exclusive soft play and sensory room session for a terminally ill local boy and his family, creating a safe, private and welcoming environment where they could spend valuable time together. The session offered the young boy an opportunity to play, explore and enjoy the facilities away from the usual busy environment of a leisure centre. Working alongside local charity Creating Memories, GLL was proud to support the family and create a positive experience during an incredibly challenging time. The initiative demonstrated the centre’s commitment to inclusion, compassion and supporting local families when they need it most.
Female friendly sports day
The female-friendly sports day at Bedford Athletic Stadium provided an inclusive and welcoming environment for women and girls to participate in physical activity, try new sports and build confidence. Delivered in partnership with HAWAA Empower, the event encouraged social interaction, improved wellbeing and promoted active lifestyles. Participants enjoyed a range of activities, creating a positive and supportive community experience for all.
