WORKOUT YOUR WAY AT WADDON LEISURE CENTRE

Conveniently located on Purley way with easy access to public transport links and car parking facilities, our state of the art, air-conditioned gym offers a relaxed and friendly environment for all the community. We have fitness instructors and personal trainers on hand to provide support and advice for all your workout needs.   Included in some of our membership options are free induction and re-focus sessions where our qualified gym instructors are able to teach you the basics of the gym and help set a programme to achieve your goals.

Functional Area

Train with purpose in our fully equipped functional training area, designed to improve strength, conditioning, and overall performance. This versatile space gives you the freedom to move beyond traditional workouts and challenge your body in new ways.

Build power and release energy on the punch bag, strengthen your core with core bags, and develop full body strength using our range of kettlebells. Take your cardio and conditioning to the next level with the SkiErg, assault bike, and Skillmill, ideal for high intensity interval training (HIIT), endurance work, and athletic training.

Whether you're new to functional fitness or pushing for peak performance, this area has everything you need to train harder, move better, and feel stronger.

Cardio Zone

Boost your fitness and endurance in our dedicated cardio zone, equipped with a wide range of machines to suit every workout style and ability.

Choose from treadmills for walking, jogging, or sprinting. Take on the challenge of the stairmaster, or enjoy an impactful session on the cross trainer. Build full body endurance with the rowing machines, or pick from our selection of bikes for everything from steady rides to high intensity intervals.

Whether you're warming up, burning calories, or pushing your cardiovascular limits, our cardio area has everything you need to keep moving and stay motivated.

Plate Loaded Machines

Build serious strength in our plate loaded training area, designed for controlled, effective resistance training. This space combines the feel of free weights with the added stability of machines. This is perfect for targeting specific muscle groups with confidence.

Load up and push your limits on key pieces including the leg press, hip thrust, low row, chest press, shoulder press and more. Each machine allows you to train safely while progressively increasing weight, making it ideal for both beginners and experienced lifters.

Whether you're focusing on lower body power, upper body strength, or full body development, our plate loaded equipment gives you the tools to train efficiently and effectively.

Free Weights

Our free weights zone is fully equipped for strength training and performance development. Featuring multiple squat racks, flat and adjustable benches, a wide range of dumbbells, and specialist stations such as the Scott bench. This area is designed to support all levels, from beginners to advanced lifters.

Train compound lifts like squats, bench press, and deadlifts in a safe, spacious environment, or isolate specific muscle groups using dumbbells and accessory equipment. Whether your goal is building muscle, increasing strength, or improving overall fitness, our free weights area provides everything you need for effective, results driven training.

Resistance Equipment

Build strength, improve endurance, and support your overall fitness with our comprehensive range of resistance equipment. Designed to target every major muscle group, our equipment allows you to perform a complete full body workout, whether you're focusing on strength, toning, or rehabilitation.

From beginner friendly options to more advanced setups, our resistance equipment helps you train safely and effectively at your own pace. Perfect for improving muscle control, boosting metabolism, and enhancing overall performance, it’s an essential part of any well rounded fitness routine.

Stretch Mats

 Improve flexibility, enhance recovery, and take time to reset with our dedicated stretch mat area. Designed for comfort and support, our mats provide the perfect space for stretching, mobility work, core exercises, and cooldown routines.

Whether you’re warming up before a workout or winding down afterwards, our stretch mats help reduce muscle tension, improve range of motion, and support injury prevention. Suitable for all fitness levels, it’s your go to space to move freely, relax, and look after your body.

Off Peak And Saver Members

Off peak and saver members can use the gym between 09:00 - 16:00 (Last entry 15:00) Monday to Friday and after 13:00 on weekends.

Junior Gym Members

Juniors between the ages of 11 and 17 years can sign up to our junior membership

Junior gym members can use the gym 15:00 - 18:00 (Last entry 17:00) Monday to Friday and 10:00 - 17:00 (Last entry 16:00) on Weekends.

During school holidays, junior gym timings extend to 10:00 - 18:00 (last entry 17:00) Monday to Friday.

Junior members must book in advance prior to attending the gym

Why Not Try our Gym Based Classes?

Take your training to the next level with our gym instructor led classes, held in our dedicated functional training area and available at no additional cost with selected memberships.

Our sessions include High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) and Circuit Training, designed to boost fitness, build strength, and keep your workouts varied and motivating. Whether you're looking to push your limits or stay consistent, our instructors are there to guide and support you every step of the way.

GYM INDUCTION TYPES AVAILABLE AT WADDON LEISURE CENTRE

BASIC INDUCTION

A 30 minute induction with qualified Fitness Instructor that includes:

  • Blood Pressure check.
  • Demonstration of two pieces of cardio and two pieces of resistance equipment.

Fitness Instructor will also answer any additional questions and queries.

TOTAL INDUCTION

A 60 minutes full induction that includes:

  • Blood Pressure check.
  • Demonstration of all equipment.
  • A personalised programme for 6-8 weeks which can be revisited via Re-Focus Session.
  • Advice on any other health and fitness questions you may have.

RE-FOCUS SESSION

A 30 minutes session 6-8 weeks post Total Induction, where our Fitness Instructor will revise your programme, adjust to your current needs and goals, and answer any additional questions you may have. This session is important to help you stay motivated and promote further progression.

JUNIOR INDUCTION

A 30 minutes induction dedicated to younger gym users. This session is restricted to juniors aged 11-17, who want to participate in gym sessions at Queensmead Sports Centre. The session will be delivered by qualified Fitness professional and include a demonstration of all equipment available for juniors as well as suitable gym programme.
