Explorers

The Explorers room caters for children from 6 months to 18 months old. This room  includes a number of areas to help engage children and assist with their development including black and white area, book / cosy, construction / sensory, role play  and messy play areas.  In addition the baby room boasts its own kitchen, changing area and sleep room. We also have our own garden dedicated for our under 2's so they can play safely and separately from the older children, and enjoy plenty of outdoor time. The baby room can hold up to 12 children.

Discoverers

Also known as the transition room, the Discoverers room is designed for children aged 18 months to 2 years old. The transition room offers further development with areas such as small world, construction, sand and water, as well as book corner and role play. We also have our own garden dedicated for our under 2s so they can play safely and separately from the older children, whilst still enjoying plenty of outdoor time. This room can hold up to 12 children.

Creators

This room provides more structured activities and therefore includes role play, home corner, construction and messy play, book corner plus small world areas. Inventors

Our Inventors room is for children aged 3 years to 5 years old. The pre-school room helps prepare children for the school transition and as well as messy play, role play, book corner and puzzle areas, it has dedicated maths and writing areas. Our large nursery garden is connected to the pre-school room so the children can have plenty of outdoor play. This room can cater for a maximum of 32 children.

FUNDING

We are pleased to offer government-funded childcare hours for all eligible families. Funding is provided 38 weeks a year.

Due to the setting being open 51 weeks per year we stretch the funding over 51 weeks which means that: 15 hours =11 hours per week, 30 hours = 22 hours per week At Sutton Day Nursery, we are here to support you in accessing the government-funded childcare hours available to you.

The amount of funded childcare your child is entitled to depends on their age and your eligibility. Below is a helpful guide to understanding the funded hours for children of various ages and how to apply for them.

Funding for 3 and 4-year olds (universal)

In England, all 3 and 4-year-olds currently receive 15 hours of government-funded early education per week.

If eligible, you will gain access to the funded hours starting from the term following your child’s 3rd birthday. At Sutton Day Nursery, our aim is to ensure that families of all attendance types can maximise this funding. That's why we spread the funding across the year rather than the traditional 38 week term time period. This approach allows part-time families to access more of the funded hours compared to what would be available to them under a term time structure.

Funding for children aged 9 months to 4 years (working families)

Eligible working families can access up to 30 hours of funded childcare per week (term-time) for children aged 9 months to 4 years.

The 30 hours of childcare funding is only available for 38 weeks of the year. As the nursery is open all year round the funding is spread across the full year and would therefore be adjusted down to 22 hours per week.

Funding for 2 year olds with additional support

Some 2-year-olds may be eligible for 15 hours of funded childcare if families meet certain criteria.

You may qualify if you receive:

  • Universal Credit (with a household income of £15,400 or less after tax, excluding benefits)
  • Income Support, income-based JSA or ESA
  • The guaranteed element of Pension Credit

Or if your child:

  • Has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP)
  • Receives Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
  • Is looked after or has left care (e.g. adoption or special guardianship order)

This funding is typically 15 hours per week over 38 weeks, which may also be stretched across the year where available.

There are no income thresholds for this element of early years funding. If your child is accessing Early Learning for 2-year-olds, you may also be eligible for the Early Years Pupil Premium (EYPP). This is additional funding provided to the nursery to further support your child’s learning and development. You can check your eligibility here or speak to our team or your local council for guidance on how to apply.

If you and your partner (if applicable) are working, you may be entitled to additional funded hours through the working parent entitlement, increasing your total to up to 30 hours per week (term-time). Click here for more information.

Even if you are not eligible for the 2-year-old funding, you may still qualify for the 30 hours funded childcare offer as a working parent.

To apply, speak to our team or contact your local council.

Non-UK Citizens

If you are a non-UK citizen and your immigration status states ‘no recourse to public funds’, you may still be eligible for free childcare for your 2-year-old.

To qualify, you must live in England and meet the following household income thresholds (after tax):

  • £26,500 or less for families outside London with one child
  • £34,500 or less for families within London with one child
  • £30,600 or less for families outside London with two or more children
  • £38,600 or less for families within London with two or more children
  • You must also have no more than £16,000 in savings or investments.

If you think you may be eligible, we encourage you to speak to our team or your local council for further guidance and support with your application.

How to apply

Funding applications are managed through the government childcare service. Once approved, you will receive a code which must be provided to the nursery.

We recommend applying in advance of your preferred start date to ensure your place can be secured.

Tax-Free Childcare

Tax-Free Childcare is a governmental initiative aimed at helping working parents in with childcare costs.

By creating an online account through the government portal parents can deposit funds to cover any childcare expenses with a certified provider. For every 80 pence contributed by the account holder or a third party, the government supplements an additional 20 pence. This supplementary contribution mirrors the standard tax rate of 20%, hence the scheme's name.

The government will 'top up' the account with 20% of childcare expenses, capped at £10,000 annually, equating to a maximum support of £2,000 per child per year (or £4,000 for children with disabilities).

Eligibility:

To qualify for Tax-Free Childcare, you (and your partner, if applicable) must meet the following criteria:

  • Be aged 16 or over
  • Live in the UK (or be treated as living in the UK)
  • Be responsible for the child you are applying for
  • Be in paid work, including: being employed or self-employed; on maternity, paternity, shared parental, or adoption leave, sick leave or annual leave
  • Expect to earn at least the equivalent of 16 hours per week at National Minimum or Living Wage (on average over the next 3 months)
  • Have an adjusted net income of less than £100,000 per year per parent (this includes any worldwide income)

You will not be eligible if you are currently receiving:

  • Universal Credit
  • Childcare Vouchers

If you are not currently working

You may still be eligible if your partner is working and you receive one of the following:

  • Incapacity Benefit
  • Severe Disablement Allowance
  • Carer’s Allowance (or Carer Support Payment in Scotland)
  • Contribution-based Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  • National Insurance credits due to limited capability for work

Starting or returning to work

If you are starting or returning to work, you can still apply. The timing of your application will depend on your start date, so we recommend checking your eligibility in advance to ensure you receive support as soon as possible.

START YOUR APPLICATION

Universal Credit Childcare

If you are a working parent and receive Universal Credit, you may be able to claim back up to 85% of your childcare costs. In some cases, upfront childcare payments may also be available if you are starting work or increasing your hours.

Who can apply?

You may be eligible if you are:

  • Currently in paid work, or
  • Starting a new job within the next month

If you live with a partner, you will both usually need to be working, unless your partner is unable to care for your child due to:

  • A health condition or disability
  • Caring responsibilities (e.g. eligible for Carer’s Allowance)
  • Temporary circumstances (such as a hospital stay)

There is no minimum number of hours required, but your childcare must support your working hours.

You may also be eligible if you are on:

  • Sick leave (receiving Statutory Sick Pay)
  • Maternity, paternity, adoption, or shared parental leave (and receiving statutory pay or Maternity Allowance)

How it works:

  • You pay for your childcare first (unless eligible for upfront support)
  • You then report your costs through your Universal Credit account
  • You can claim back up to 85% of your childcare costs

The maximum you can receive per month is:

  • £1,031.88 for one child
  • £1,768.94 for two or more children

Payments are made after the childcare has taken place, as part of your Universal Credit payment.

If you would like support understanding or applying for Universal Credit Childcare, our team is always happy to help guide you.

COMMUNICATING WITH PARENTS - FAMLY APP

Communication with parents is at the heart of our ethos and it’s the reason why we use the Famly app: a fully encrypted, GDPR-compliant app that allows you and your child's setting to access important information quickly. As a parent you will be able to get live updates on your phone or computer on your child's status throughout the day, including what they have eaten, when they slept, what activities they have completed and much more.

You will receive photo and video updates of the daily activities your child has undertaken, as we document observations, progress reports and record the stages of their learning and development. The app also allows parents to communicate with us via direct messages so you are always in contact with the nursery. You can report sickness, holidays, and update permissions, without the need for paperwork or a phone call.

Once you have registered with us we will set you up on the Famly database. It is very simple and easy to use and the feedback we receive from parents is overwhelmingly positive and a significant improvement on previous paper based systems.

On top of this we operate parents evenings, sports days, graduations and plenty of events that we encourage parents to participate in. We even have our own PNA (Parent Nursery Association) to ensure parents have a say in what we do here at Sutton Day Nursery. We also communicate all of these things via the Famly app.

EARLY YEARS FOUNDATION STAGE

YOUR CHILD'S DEVELOPMENT

We provide broad and balanced play based learning for children from 6 months to 5 years. Our structure and content follows that of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), supporting the learning and development of children.

Our inclusive environment enables children to have the best possible start in life. Our nursery practitioners work closely alongside parents and carers to develop an understanding of children’s abilities, interests and stage of development. We then plan from the child’s interests and enthusiasm to support and extend their learning and provide activities where children learn, explore, engage and develop to their full potential.

The key areas of learning within the EYFS are:

  • communication and language
  • personal, social and emotional development
  • physical development
  • literacy
  • mathematics
  • understanding the world
  • expressive arts and design

OUTDOOR PLAY

The Early Year’s Foundation Stage clearly states that children must have access to outside provision all year around. Children enjoy playing outside in all weathers and benefit in many ways, some of which are listed below:

  • It is fun exercising in the fresh air
  • Children can learn to take risks and try new activities
  • They can explore the natural environment
  • Children have room to run around and shout

Fresh air and exercise are proven to be good for the development of the brain and for a general feeling of well being. Children can exercise their gross motor skills by running, climbing and jumping. At Sutton Day Nursery, we have two gardens: one dedicated to under 2s, and one dedicated to over 2s which means children have the opportunity to play in the garden every day.

In addition to the dedicated nursery gardens, the building in which Sutton Day Nursery is located has outdoor tennis facilities, an astro-turf football pitch, and neighbours a large field so there is a plethora of choice for outdoor play.

We also have indoor sports available in our studios, tennis courts, gymnastics hall and soft play which the children can use within their weekly timetable of activities.

WHAT OUR PARENTS SAY

Angel

"My daughter has attended Sutton Day Nursery since she was 10 months old and is now in preschool. Although we had a temporary break of 7 months due to a change of jobs Sutton Day became, in my daughter's words, “my favourite nursery”. Recently I have seen her development flourish especially with the preschool team and their ability to make phonics and numbers fun and interactive. The children attend football on Mondays and are given the opportunity to join gymnastics, which my daughter loves. I do sometimes struggle getting her to leave after a whole day there as more often than not she wants to stay longer. A lovely, clean and welcoming nursery that I highly recommend."

Zaira

"My daughter started here when she was about 8 months when I had to return to work and she is now in the pre-school room. Like many others, I had visited many nurseries and I was running out of hope as I was not satisfied nor got the ‘feeling’ that this was the one until I visited here. The staff at every stage of development have been absolutely fantastic, so loving and supportive. My daughter adores all the staff and nursery, and she has flourished. As Better, Sutton Day Nursery is now under a different company, the kids benefit from their fantastic facilities and staff like the playpark, creative movement and the gymnastics academy. Organisation and communication is fab, the staff are very responsive to feedback and welcome parental input. I am hoping to start my son in the baby room in September, as I know he will too, get a fantastic experience and I will have peace of mind when returning- they will both be absolutely fine."

Nikki

"My little boy started at Sutton Day Nursery at 10 and a half months. The baby room was extremely accommodating and he took to the staff and the other babies easily and without any problems. They made it very easy for me to feel that he was in safe and secure hands when I initially started leaving him. He has grown and matured and is now in the toddler room and is nearly 3. The staff are extremely kind and caring, there is a family atmosphere at drop off and pick up with everyone making sure everyone is looked after and making sure all us parents know exactly what our little ones are doing or have done during the day.I would not hesitate in recommending the manager and all the staff at Sutton Day Nursery."

Faye

"I viewed 3 nurseries before this one and knew as soon as I saw the setup and met the staff this was the one for us. Each age group has its own room, extremely secure entry and the play area is great. The place is spotlessly clean and all the staff are fantastic, each day they’re doing new activities with the children and give you a full run down each day. Would highly recommend to anyone and I’m a very fussy mother!"
