Local sporting heroes were celebrated at the annual Reigate & Banstead Sports Awards at the Harlequin Theatre & Cinema, Redhill on Monday 21st February 2022.

A grand total of 83 nominations were received – the highest number on record since the awards began. Sportspeople, coaches, teams, and volunteers were all among those highlighted as the borough’s best sporting talent.

The judging panel, made up of members of the RB Sports Council and Reigate & Banstead Borough Council spent several hours deliberating over the entries.  After some tricky decision making, eleven worthy winners were chosen!

BETTER leisure centres in Reigate and Banstead sponsored the 'Club of the Year' Award which was awarded to Horley Cricket Club and presented by GLL Partnership Manager James Brackenborough on the night.

Cllr Kanika Sachdeva, Executive Member for Leisure and Culture, said: “We were blown away with the number of entries we received this year. It shows just how much our residents and communities truly value their sporting superstars, coaches and volunteers.  After last year’s virtual ceremony, I’m so glad we’ve been able to come together to celebrate everyone’s achievements. A huge well done to all of our winners and thank you to our sponsors.

“If anyone in our borough is thinking of picking up a new sport, I encourage you to take a look at the sports club directory on the council’s website. There is a huge range of activities on offer. Being part of a team and taking part in sport is good for our physical health and mental wellbeing. It also helps us to build confidence, social skills and connect with others in the community we may never usually meet.”
