Here at Active Hampton we have some exciting news to share. We have recently secured planning permission and funding from the Football Foundation, to refurbish our existing floodlit Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA). This will mean we can bring it back to life, ensuring it meets the needs of our community and provides inclusive and accessible opportunities for sport and physical activity.
We're keen to hear from local clubs and community groups who might be interested in making the new MUGA their home for training sessions, matches, and development programmes, or those who would be interested in working with us to deliver new activities on the MUGA once the refurbishment is completed.
The new MUGA will offer:
- Floodlit 5-a-side football pitch
- Full-size basketball court
(with additional basketball hoops for informal/recreational play) - Netball court
This will be a versatile, all-weather space designed for community and club use throughout the year. We want to shape the new MUGA programme around what residents and local clubs actually need.
The positive impact that well-managed MUGAs can have on young people, families and local communities is well documented. If you're interested in learning more, we encourage you to read the Hackney Quest report online: "The Difference a MUGA Can Make: The Value of Multi-Use Games Areas for Young People, Families and Communities". The report highlights how MUGAs can act as important community spaces, promoting physical activity, social connection, youth engagement and community wellbeing.
If you (or your club / organisation) are interested in using the refurbished MUGA, or if you'd like to know more about availability, pricing and opening dates, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
As the works progress, we will provide more updates here.
