Pickleball

What is Pickleball?

Pickleball is a fun hybrid of tennis, badminton and table tennis and suitable for people of all ages and abilities. It is played on the same size as a badminton court, using a shorter tennis-style net.

Games are in singles or doubles and players use paddles to hit a plastic ball between one another, usually playing up to 11 points.

Learn more about the sport on Pickleball England website.

Pickleball Drop In

We have pickleball drop in sessions scheduled throughout the week to allow players of all abilities to come together and experience the game of Pickleball. Sessions are not facilitated so players arrange teams and matches amongst themselves.

Paddles and balls will be provided so just come in comfortable clothes and suitable footwear. Please note this is an adult group session.

Coached Pickleball

Coached pickleball sessions are facilitated by our fantastic coach, Simon, who selects a certain skill or combination of skills to focus on each week. These skills are broken down with a range of drills and activities to practice and players can apply the skill in match play at the end of the session. Simon will offer tips and guidance to all players.

Sessions can be adapted to all abilities so whether you are a new player trying to get to grips with the basics or a more experienced player looking to improve, you will be welcome at the session. Please note this is an adult group session and paddles can be provided.

Family Pickleball Drop In

Family pickleball drop-in sessions welcome all ages, giving parents, grandparents, children, and extended family members the chance to play together and connect with other families.

Pickleball Doubles League

Looking for fun, competitive pickleball? Our doubles league is open to everyone and organised by skill level- no need to bring a partner!

Each session brings together a group of six players who rotate partners and opponents, playing 8 to 10 games to determine the court winner. It's a great way to meet new people, sharpen your skills, and enjoy the game in a welcoming, inclusive environment.

Each event stands alone, so you can jump in for a single session or play regularly to climb the League leaderboard. All match results are submitted to DUPR to help track your progress.

League Schedule

Sessions will typically take place once per month on a Sunday afternoon, and will run between 12-5pm (registration at 11.45am).

Dates of upcoming events will be posted on this webpage so keep an eye out!

  • Sunday 20th September
  • Sunday 11th October
  • Sunday 8th November
  • Sunday 13th December

Booking

Booking is required.

Bookings can be made through the Better UK app or online (bookable under 'Pickleball Tournament'). Bookings will open 4 weeks ahead of an event and will close on the Wednesday prior to the event.

Entry to a league event costs £20 per player.

If it is your first time participating in the league, then please email the Tournament Director, Simon Watson at simonwatson.pickleball@btinternet.com after booking, with the following registration information:

  • DUPR ID – if registered.
  • Self-rating / Preferred level - Advanced Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced Intermediate.

A ratings guide can be found on the Pickleball England website here: https://www.pickleballengland.org/ratings-guide.

Equipment

Players are welcome to bring their own paddles or borrow one from the centre. Balls will be provided.

League Format

  • Players will be assigned to a court in a six-player group based on skill level.
  • Each court will have a match sheet detailing the games. The winning team is responsible for recording the match result, while the losing team must verify its accuracy.
  • The format ensures that each player partners with every other player twice and competes against each player between three and five times within the group.
  • Placings are determined by win percentage on the day, with ties resolved first by points difference and then by total points scored.

League Skill Level

Player skill levels will be determined using a combination of DUPR ratings, self-assessments, and League table standings.

A ratings guide can be found on the Pickleball England website here: https://www.pickleballengland.org/ratings-guide.

League Results

Court winners and match results will be shared with the group through the tournament organiser and the league table will be updated and publicly available for everyone to view.
