Age is just a number, and if you are looking for an active role as part of a friendly, hardworking team we have some great opportunities to for you to qualify and join the Newquay team as a pool lifeguard this year.

Our newly qualified lifeguard from Jim, 49 from  nearby Bodmin Leisure Centre tells us why he loves lifeguarding  ‘I’d been thinking about becoming a lifeguard for some time.  I took the plunge and qualified in October 2021, the training was intense but fascinating.   It’s a wonderful life skill and so much more than just being a good swimmer.   Its nice  to meet customers young and old and I enjoy working as a lifeguard on the Bodmin team alongside Wayne’

Tempted, the prerequisites for becoming a lifeguard on a National Pool Lifeguard Course are:

  • Must be 16-years-old
  • Jump/dive into deep water
  • Swim 50 metres in less than 60 seconds
  • Swim 100 metres continuously on front and back in deep water
  • Tread water for 30 seconds
  • Surface dive to the floor of the pool
  • Climb out unaided without ladder/steps and where the pool design permit
