The GLL Sports Foundation is the largest independent athlete support programme where talented athletes from 75 areas across the UK apply for a range of support. The programme support extends to over 250 sport facilities, and athletes can get access to financial help, physiotherapy, and mental health aid.

This year marks the 15th year of the GLL Sports Foundation’s support. Since the foundation started, the supported athletes within the scheme have gained an incredible 76 Olympic and Paralympic medals and 77 Commonwealth Games Medals.

Reigate and Banstead joined in the 15th year anniversary celebrations by holding an event at Donyngs Leisure Centre, Redhill to celebrate this year’s athletes, by commemorating and showcasing the breadth of local sporting talent, as well as highlighting the key contributions from GLL, GSF and it’s partners.

This is the first GSF event ever to be held for the athletes of Reigate and Banstead, which also coincided nicely with the celebration of GLL’s landmark 30th birthday.

The GSF presentation was delivered by James Brackenborough, Partnership Manager, and Colin Coughtrey, Regional Sport and Health Manager.

The event proved to be a huge success, with fifteen athletes in attendance alongside, family, friends, staff and partners. Cllr Eddy Humphries, Mayor of Reigate and Banstead was also present, and handed out awards and goodie bags which included branded GSF merchandise to the athletes. It was a great opportunity for the athletes to network and meet others on the GLL Sports Foundation, to share their experiences and achievements.

‘It was wonderful to see so many athletes that had benefited from the programme at the event, and it was really great to how impactful the GSF programme was on the athletes careers, allowing them to flourish and reach their full potentials.’ - Organiser of the event, Alexandra Chung, GLL Community Sports Manager

Due to the event being such as success this year, we look forward to this becoming a regular annual celebrate in the GLL calendar.
