On 23rd August Dorcan Better Health and Recreation Complex is ready to welcome members back to brand new swimming pool facilities, following the completion of a major refurbishment project.
The renovation works came as a direct result of a joint £380k investment from Swindon Borough Council and social enterprise Greenwich Leisure Limited (GLL), who operate the facility under the customer facing brand of Better.
The refurbishment works have transformed the main pool, changing village and surrounding poolside areas. The investment has also helped fund a brand new 30 plus station gym. The completed works have breathed new life into what was a dated facility, converting it into a modern, inclusive, community health and well-being hub.
Councillor Robert Jandy, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Heritage, Leisure and Town Centre Experience, said: “It’s great to see this swimming pool refurbished and reopened.
“Swimming is a great way of staying fit and healthy, especially over these hot summer months when children are home from school.
“Along with the swimming pool, the centre has also been upgraded to include a 30+ station upgraded, perfect for those who fancy some weights rather than water.”
Barnaby Rich, GLL’s Partnership Manager for Swindon said, ‘‘Its great to see the upgrade the Pool and Changing Rooms along with the 30 station Gym. This will now enable a much loved leisure facility the opportunity to reach more of our local communities whilst working along side our other leisure facilities in Swindon.’’
The gym is now open for pre-bookings and new memberships, with the pool set to open 23rd August, which will also see the return of it’s Better Swim School.
