As the country is gripped by the highest temperatures ever recorded in the UK, the nation's largest operator of public swimming pools has announced it will extend opening hours at over 50 of its lidos and indoor pools - to help overheated Brits cool off.
The move comes as high temperatures have led to a rise in unsupervised canal, lake and river swimming with the inherent dangers they present.
Better swimming pools and leisure centres are provided by charitable social enterprise GLL, whose Chief Executive Mark Sesnan said:
"Stay cool and stay safe during the heatwave.
"Book yourself a swimming slot using the Better_UK App or check out better.org.uk for details of your local pool."
