Better, in partnership with Reading Borough Council, are offering Carers the opportunity to take out a 6-week membership.  To take part in this offer, you must be an unpaid carer of an adult (over 18) in Reading. An unpaid carer is anyone who provides care and support to someone that could not cope without this support.

You will be part of a small group participating in 1 activity a week for 6 weeks, during this time you will take part in a variety of physical activities. To accompany this, you will receive a FREE 6-week partnership wide membership, providing access to all four leisure centres in Reading (access to gym, swim and classes.) 

South Reading Leisure Centre will be offering sessions on a Tuesday (the times of these sessions vary depending on the activity, they will either be 10.30am - 11.30am or 12-1pm. A full schedule will be provided prior to starting) 

Rivermead Leisure Centre will be offering sessions on a Wednesday from 10am - 11am.

If Your health status changes, You will seek guidance and clearance to exercise from Your General Practitioner or other relevant heath professional before participating any further in the physical activity.

  • When You are taking part in any physical activity You are responsible for monitoring Your own physical condition throughout Your use of Our facility. In the event of any unusual symptoms occurring, You should inform a member of staff immediately.
  • You must use the equipment and facilities in the correct manner according to instructions and/or induction training; You must not use the equipment and facilities in any manner which constitutes a health and safety risk either to Yourself or to others. We are not responsible for any injury or loss You suffer as a consequence of misuse of any equipment, or of any health condition that You may have (except where Our negligence causes personal injury).

Membership Terms & conditions

  1. Physical activity or exercise is undertaken at your own risk. If you have any concerns about your health, suitability for a chosen activity or your health status changes you should seek guidance from a doctor or relevant health professional before participating.
  2. Always register your attendance by scanning the QR code, barcode or membership card at the centre reception or entrance gates.
  3. There may be additional rules which apply to a particular facility or activity displayed in the Centre which you will also be required to follow.

To be eligible for this programme, the person you care for must be 18 or over at the time of registering.

Participants are encouraged to attend a minimum of three group sessions.
