Bedford River Festival
The biggest event in Bedford was back on the 18th to 19th July and the Better Bedford partnership was on hand to engage with the local community and enjoy the festivities.
The festival provided a fantastic chance to; engage with the local community, showcase some of the sporting activities that we provide, promote our memberships and promote the summer school holidays offer. Throughout the weekend a variety of different instructors delivered tasters on a large, well-attended stage. Classes included; Zumba, Yoga, Combat and Legs, Bums and Tums.
Wellbeing Games 2026
31st July saw return of the largest community event that the Bedford partnership has seen so far since GLL was awarded the contract. Hosted at Bedford Stadium over 500 people come through the doors to enjoy the plethora of activities, information stalls and health awareness opportunities!
The event was a collaboration between local the East London NHS foundation Trust and the Better Bedford Partnership. The key message of the day was health, community engagement and inclusivity!
Better Supports TOUR DE SENSE
Throughout July two of the Better sites (Kempston pool and John Bunyan) were on hand to support SENSE UK's Tour de Sense.
Tour de Sense is an inspiring fundraising challenge that brings together supporters, volunteers and local communities to raise vital funds for people with complex disabilities, including those who are deafblind.
Participants take on cycling routes of varying distances, making the event accessible to riders of different ages and abilities while promoting physical activity, teamwork and personal achievement.
Bedford Borough Supported Interns celebrated
As part of the continued support of a vital programme, Bedford CSM Aaron Colbert had the pleasure of attending an inspirational event.
The Bedford Borough Supported Internship Graduation event celebrated the achievements of a remarkable group of young people who successfully completed the year long course.
The event brought together graduates, families, employers, education partners and council representatives to mark the end of a life-changing journey and highlight the positive impact of supported internships in helping young people with additional needs move towards sustainable employment.
Better supports Bedford Foodbank
The Bedford Better partnership continue to have a fantastic impact on the local community by providing an incredible 260 meals during the first six months of the year. This milestone highlights Better's commitment to supporting individuals and families, ensuring that everyone has access to healthy food while enjoying welcoming, inclusive community spaces.
Mowsbury Golf and Squash supports Mens Mental health
On Sunday 19th July Mowsbury supported this important topic by providing free access to its driving range bays. The session created a relaxed, supportive environment where participants could socialise, be active and enjoy meaningful conversations while trying something new. Opportunities like this play an important role in reducing isolation, improving wellbeing and building confidence through shared experiences. Participant Farad described the session as "a fantastic afternoon that helped me switch off, connect with great people and leave feeling genuinely happier."
