Powerful message at disability event

On Wednesday 13th May, the Bedford Borough Council hosted an important awareness event and the Bedford Better partnership was on hand to support. The purpose of the event was to promote Bedford Brough Councils Supported Internship Programme. The aim was to provide a chance for local young people (and parent/carers) to find out more about the programme and how it can support them.

Male only swim launches at Kempston

Pool Kempston Pools and Fitness continue to lead the way with another important cultural swimming session. This time the swimming session on offer is a “men friendly swim. On a once-a-month basis the pool is made private for only men and operated with male lifeguards.

Youth Boxing launches at session at John Bunyan

May also saw the launch of new youth boxing sessions, which inevitably started with a fully booked lively session. Launching on May 2nd these sessions will run every Saturday at John Bunyan Sports and Fitness. In collaboration with long term partner HAWAA Empower the aim of the sessions is to create a positive, safe and inclusive space for young people to grow in confidence, fitness and discipline.

Better partnership supports mammoth challenge

On Saturday the 30th May, the Bedford Better partnership supported a truly inspirational challenge completed by a small group of local Bedfordians. The event being completed was a “24 sports in 24 hours challenge” which saw a small group of people take part in a new sport every hour at a wide range of local locations. All 5 Bedford sites were involved providing an activity for the inspirational (and no-doubt tired) participants.

Better re-signs with Bedford College 

May saw the Bedford Better partnership sign up to the Bedford College Groups employment partnership programme for another year. After a successful first year which saw Better gaining access to a plethora of high profile networking opportunities, work experience opportunities for a number of students and the chance to sponsor the Sport Student of the Year award.
