GLL Sport Foundation Applications Open

UK’s largest independent athlete award programme invites applicants from Herts Young Mariners Base.

Friday 20 December saw the opening of the GLL Sport Foundation Awards 2025.

Applications are welcomed from aspiring athletes in Cheshunt for the free gym memberships and bursaries offered by the programme which has fostered talent up and down the country.

The GLL Sport Foundation (GSF) was launched 17 years ago by leisure operator and charitable social enterprise GLL, with the aim of supporting talented young athletes with funding and practical help.

GLL operate the leisure facilities including Herts Young Mariners Base - under the ‘Better’ brand.

The programme continues to widen and deepen the opportunities that come through sport across all communities.

2025 will be the first year that athletes from Herts Young Mariners Base in Cheshunt are able to apply in to the foundation.

According the GSF research, a lack of money to compete in their favourite sport is the biggest threat to the sporting dreams of young people. Most people agree more should be done to support Britain’s talented young athletes achieve sporting success for the opportunities and national pride that stem from this.
